Dear Washingtonians:
Over the past eight years, with your help and support, remarkable progress has been achieved in the District: We closed down the DC General Family Shelter and opened smaller more dignified short term family housing programs in all 8 wards; broke ground on a new hospital; opened the first new supermarket east of the river in over 15 years; more than doubled down payment assistance for first time home buyers; and, our families continue to increasingly choose our public schools.
Together, we navigated through an unprecedented pandemic, and led one of the strongest responses to COVID in the nation. Now, more than ever, we're energized and focused on our city's comeback. Visitors are returning to our city and entrepreneurs are opening and expanding businesses all across our city, and putting DC residents to work.
I am grateful that on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, DC voters put their trust in me to continue leading my hometown and the best, most dynamic city in the world. We have already accomplished so much together, and now we have an even bigger job ahead of us.
So, let’s spend the next four years sharing ideas, working together to build an even stronger and more inclusive city, and supporting programs and policies that advance our DC values and spread prosperity.
If there’s one thing I know about Washingtonians, it’s that we never give up—we never count ourselves out, or consider our work done. Even when we know that we are already living in the greatest city, we must always find a way to do and be better.
While we know we have more work to do, we will celebrate the progress we have made under the leadership of my Administration. The DC Proud 2023 Inauguration Activities are the opportunity to mark this moment, and we hope you can join us to celebrate.
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowser
Mayor
